THE CHRISTOGRAM

Scripture Reference

Matthew 1:20-21

“But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (ESV)

Personal Thoughts

This is a very common symbol used in the Protestant and Catholic traditions. It represents the first three letters of the holy name of Jesus in Greek. I have inset the graphic within the etching of a stained glass window motif. John 1:14 also reminds us that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” God named Jesus which carries the weight of the holiness of God and I tried to capture in the design to witness to Jesus’ holiness. As Matthew says, none other than Jesus the Christ can save us from our sins. He is The Way, The Truth and The Life (John 14:6).
