THE EMPTY TOMB

Scripture Reference

Luke 24:1-3

“But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.” (ESV)

Personal Thoughts

The tomb was EMPTY! There are numerous aspects of this of the resurrection story but for me, it is the EMPTY tomb and I wanted to somehow capture that in this Chrismon inspired ornament. There are times I like to try and place myself in the Bible story and closing my eyes, I find myself standing in the empty tomb. Knowing all that had just transpired in His crucifixion and His rushed burial, I stand in the dark and place my hand on the cold stone wall to steady myself. What am I experiencing at this moment? Why, with my hand pressed against the cold stone wall, do I feel so warm? There in that moment there is an un-nerving sense of calm standing in the darkness. Then I remember His words that yes, He would suffer and die, however ON THAT THIRD DAY HE WOULD RISE FROM THE DEAD! I hope this ornament reminds us the tomb is indeed empty because we believe in a risen Savior who has conquered death and offers us eternal life!
